Located in the heart of Rabacal is Levada das 25 Fontes, Madeira's most popular Levada walk, and the one that guides you to both the Risco Waterfall and the 25 Fontes Waterfall. Since there are two official starting points, I have to make clear that I will discuss the Rabacal route.

The Levada das 25 Fontes hike is located in Rabaçal, a nature reserve in the southwest of the island. The starting point of this route is easily accessible and has a large car park. We would like to mention that there are actually two main routes you can take to visit the 25 Fontes and the Risco waterfall. Each of them has a different parking.

The Levada das 25 Fontes hike took us 3 hours and 15 minutes to hike. This included hiking to the 25 Fontes Waterfall & Risco Waterfall. This also was with 35+ lbs on one of our backs with baby and gear. Based on most reviews, this hike takes most people about 4 hours. We hiked this trail on a rainy day but did not find it to be slippery or to.
